Typological Permute II: Variations in affordable housing for South America
Share on Facebook / Twitter

Typological Permute II examines how a comprehensive overview of the affordable housing delivery process can help redefine the provision of mass housing in Brazil and the region at large. The work explores new models of public/private development that provide an alternative to the ubiquitous landscape of repetitive dormitory cells by introducing more vibrant mixed income and typologically diverse residential communities. The project specifically focuses on multiple unit configurations that address the varied and constantly evolving needs of affordable housing in the region. As prototypes, the concepts and projects are geared towards intermediate-scale South American cities —urban agglomerations with a population ranging between 500,000 and 1,500,000 inhabitants— that are expected to have the greatest urban growth in the decades to come.
